About this breeder Zanzibah Alpacas, the future is ........" Fine 'n' Fancy". A wonderful, L ovable, P recious Camelid, A dorable to, C herish, A pleasuse to own, A private, dedicated enthusiastic alpaca owner, with quality stock, especially selected for their fine fleece, colourful characteristics and conformation. Specialist of coloured and fancy Huacaya. Zanzibah Alpacas was foundered in 2006, with a small group of pet males for a special Birthday present! We have quickly grown in numbers, due to the curious, charasmatic nature of these animals. I have sourced animals from both the larger (Bozedown, The Alpaca Stud and Classical Mileend Alpacas) and small private breeders in order to establish my foundation herd. Because my animals were primarily for my own personal pleasure and not just a business investment, I believe that this, sets us apart from the majority ! We hope to continue to enjoy these wonderful animals and endevour to always do our best to achieve high standards. I sometimes have quality coloured alpaca fleece for sale. Although I have mastered the 'art of spinning myself' and enjoy using this luxurious fleece for my own use. Our future aim is, to continue to have happy, healthy, quality colourful alpacas, to enjoy. Zanzibah Alpacas.... where the Future is Fine 'n' Fancy and growing Hairier All The Time !! 'Zanzibah Alpaca logo' is registered with UK Copywright service. About this breederHere in the beautiful Teifi Valley we started breeding our alpacas in 2003 with our starter herd of 3 pregnant females. It has been a challenge sometimes, but with the help and support of other breeders, careful selection of the best quality stud males and some additional purchases we are have about reached our optimum herd size. Our animals are part of the family and a real attraction for local people and neighbours who keep a watchful eye on the girls and their babies - they always notice a 'new face', and many know the names!! We strongly believe that there are excellent alpacas and breeders in Wales, a positive treasure trove of knowledge about the animals and their fleece, and superb quality on offer for anyone wishing to start a herd or expand and improve their own herd. We believe this so strongly that we renamed our farm 'Alpacas of Wales' - we want to draw attention to what is available here, right on people's doorstep, right across Wales - in fact 'all you'll ever need'!! Support your local breeder - why travel to England when there are several quality, friendly small breeders right on your doorstep?!!

About this breederI have been breeding alpacas since 1994, and with over 70 alpacas now probably have the largest herd in Wales. Over the years I have quietly selected carefully, from known bloodlines, concentrating on soundness, fibre and temperament. I have also acquired a wealth of experience both in the care of alpacas and in the use of their fibre. I mention the above in passing but we are modest about our achievements here at Meadowsweet Alpacas. We love our alpacas but, based on our experience, are also able to take an informed, pragmatic and down-to-earth view of the prospects for both alpacas and their fibre which we will happily share with anyone who wishes to buy from us. Due to the completely unreasonable leap in subscription fees when British Camelid alpaca owners were forced into BAS this Spring I will not be registering my alpacas in future. People seeking show stock should therefore look elsewhere. Sadly, due to illhealth, most of the Meadowsweet Alpaca herd will have to be sold this summer. Those offered for sale will be good, sound, registered, breeding stock and unregistered youngsters. We will not be selling our old-timers. I expect to start selling in June and July and will probably offer females in groups of 3 or 4. If you are looking for sensibly priced, good tempered stock please contact me.

About this breederMy husband bought me 5 llamas and 2 alpacas 14 years ago from reputable breeders and since then I have been addicted to these lovely animals. Although previously because of my love for them I have never sold any, my herd is getting large now and because of space it is necessary for me to do so. My fleece goes to a lady who makes designer clothes and she is delighted with it. At the moment I have reluctantly but 8 alpacas up for sale. I have some excellent handsome males from good stock. Good homes are vital for these fantastic animals.

About this breederI am a new breeder and intend to concentrate on breeding like colours together. As other breeders are concentrating on a improving the fleece or conformation the day will come when we as breeders will also want to be more sure of the colour we produce and I believe that there is a gap in the market for someone to concentrate on colour.

About this breederExpanding, family-run herd, established in 2000. Animals are hardy, well-handled and generally halter-trained. *** The ever-improving quality of our herd was demonstrated at (a) Northumberland Show 2006, where more than seventy alpacas came before the Judge, and where the FOUR animals we entered all won First Prizes (b) Royal Show 2006, where the fleece from one of our home-bred two- year-old females won its class *** Deals available on packages of three or more animals. PLEASE NOTE: 1. Because we firmly believe that, especially in the North of England, it is not beneficial to cover a young female before she has had proper time to mature, it will be found that our home-bred girls have all been given plenty of time to grow up, rather than being covered in adolesence. We hope that they are going to be breeding for many years; and our policy is based upon not spoiling the sheep for a ha'porth of tar (or the extra six months). We hold that waiting to start them on a Spring-birthing cycle can do nothing but good, to both them and their owners. 2. We were unable to attend any alpaca shows in 2007, owing to Caroline having a hip replacement. However, we had a very successful two days, with our home-grown alpaca products, at the Cockermouth Woolfest, to which we are due to return, this time, once again with some animals, in 2008. As we have done so successfully for several years past, we shall again be taking our animals and alpaca products to the Vale of Lune Point-to-Point, at Whittington, Near Kirkby Lonsdale, on Easter Saturday, 22 March 2008. ***This year (2008) we shall be taking a wide selection of alpacas, together with some of our own alpaca products, to the HOLKER HALL GARDEN FESTIVAL, near Cartmel, on30 & 31 May and 1 June***. DON'T MISS LOOKING US UP AT THESE EVER-POPULAR EVENTS WhyNot come and see us, either there or at home? ***MEANTIME, WE NOW HAVE MANY WONDERFUL CRIA, BOTH MALE AND FEMALE AND IN A VARIETY OF COLOURS, WHICH, WITH THEIR MOTHERS, ARE WELL WORTH A VIEW FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO START OR ADD TO THEIR HERD. EXCELLENT TERMS AVAILABLE ON PACKAGES*** *** All our Stud Males have super cria on the ground here from their 2007 crop. About this breederI have a small herd of Huacaya alpacas on Exmoor and now have a few animals for sale. In 2000 I started with two females, a black and a brown, and have chosen high quality Peruvian stud males to improve the quality of the fleece. Colours range from black, through dark chocolate and chestnut brown to fawn and white. I am mainly interested in producing high quality in the blacks and darker browns. In every case I am breeding for excellence of fibre and my young animals have already won several prizes. I have successfully completed Level 2 Judge Training, which helps me in the selection of the best animals for breeding. Nearly all my alpacas are halter-trained and are used to people, some of them being taken for walks on Exmoor. Stud services are now available from Octavian (4 yrs old in August 2005) We are pleased to offer follow-up advice and support to our clients and also run spinning and weaving courses on the farm. Visitors wishing to come and see the herd are welcome, whether they are thinking of buying or just want to find out more about alpacas, but please telephone or email me first for an appointment.

About this breederLaurel Farm Alpacas are alpaca breeders of quality, affordable alpacas offering a wide selection of coloured and white alpacas for sale. My name is Geraldine Thomas and I am responsible for the care of the alpacas and really enjoy working with these beautiful, gentle creatures, as well as showing them to our clients and other farm visitors. My husband, Mike and son David are also involved in the business undertaking pasture management and general maintenance of the farm as well as helping with routine husbandry when more hands are needed. We are keen to maintain and improve the quality of our herd through our own breeding programme enhanced by outside blood lines and are particularly interested in keeping the wonderful variety of colour, which distinguishes the alpaca, as well as white fleece. With approximately 50 alpacas we are able to offer customers a very good selection of attractive alpacas for sale. We have exhibited at the Devon County Show and the Bath & West Show in 2006 and 2007, coming away with Reserve Brown Female Champion at the Devon Show in 2006 and Reserve Brown Male and Champion Brown Female in 2007. The Brown Female, Laurel's Lady Cleopatra was also first in her class at the Bath and West, with our other two entries taking 5th and 6th places. Laurel Farm is situated just inside the Devon border at Tytherleigh on the A358 between Chard and Axminster, giving us the benefit of the beautiful South Western countryside whilst still being accessible from all areas. Laurel Farm Alpacas are only 20 minutes from the M5 motorway.

About this breederOur approach to herd management and animal husbandry emphasises high welfare with low environmental impact. Our elite herd specialises in coloured animals with particularly fine fleeces, a product of several years experience within an ambitious breeding programme. Their fleeces are usually classed as the most valuble "Baby" or "Royal Baby" fibre, in both white and natual colours, and so are ideal for handspinning. If you don't spin yourself, these beautiful soft fleeces are the perfect way of making yourself very popular with your local spinners! We sell all our fleeces locally - at least, the one's we don't keep to spin ourselves. All animals have been halter trained. They are also particularly friendly and easy to handle, having been raised in a small, stable herd where each animal gets personal attention. We can provide access to some of the best world-class alpaca genetics in the UK, including Mateus, the 2003 Supreme Champion winner at the Royal Bath & West Show.

About this breederWe are situated in a beautiful valley between Bath and Bristol. For some time we have been breeding Pedigree Aberdeen Angus and Highland cattle , but have always been interested in these wonderful curious and peaceful creatures. We made a decision to start breeding alpacas, and have not looked back. Our herd totals about 60 at the moment, with 25 breeding females in a variety of colours from white through to grey and black. We have recently purchased Wellground Killawasi's Keepsake as our first stud male, a Supreme Champion in 2007, and hope he will soon help to improve the genetics in our herd .Inca Magic also came to us recently, and we are waiting for her first cria any time now. Our aim is to produce fine quality breeding stock, with fabulous fleeces. To offer help and advice to new breeders, and to anyone who would like to keep these lovely creatures as pets.We hope soon to be able to offer stud services, and also agistment

Martin and I met on a singles holiday in Crete in 1985. Martin was at the time, working with his father as a Tree Surgeon and I was a Secretary for a Chartered Accountants in London. I lived in Kent with my parents and Martin lived in Hook with his parents and we only saw each other at weekends, so after only ten months we got engaged and were married five months later in October 1986. Our first son, Scott, was born in 1988 and our second son Sean followed in 1990. Martin took over his dad’s tree surgery business in 1993, when his father had an accident which left him paralysed from the chest down. Whilst our boys were young, I worked in various jobs; Secretary, Supermarket Cashier, Cleaner, Nail Technician, Supermarket Night Merchandiser, Bar Attendant, Legal Secretary and Receptionist to name but a few!! In 2003 Martin bought a magazine which featured an Alpaca and Llama supplement. We were smitten with these lovely creatures with such large, kind eyes. I had always regretted not pursuing a career in the Veterinary field and Martin had always wanted to work the land his father had given to him, which had been in his family for fifty years. Maybe alpaca farming was the answer for us both? We read quite a few alpaca articles and then contacted Bob and Lesley Rawlins at Wellground Alpaca Stud. They invited us to their farm and we talked for hours about alpaca farming. We were very excited at the prospect of becoming involved in this different way of life and within a few days we decided we would buy two pregnant females and ‘give it a go’! Our venture had begun!!! We set about preparing the land for the alpacas’ arrival. We planted Weeping Willow trees for future shade and started on the paddock fencing and field shelters….Also, the whole perimeter of our land had to be fenced off to keep our two Golden Retrievers, Sasha and Chloe, from straying. By the Summer of 2004, we decided we would definitely pursue farming alpacas as a business and started to think about progressing it as such. In April 2005, our maiden alpaca, Audrey had a very difficult birth and was left very weak and later collapsed with exhaustion. She was unable to stand and so her cria Amber wasn’t able to feed. The crucial five hours passed and we needed to stomach tube Amber with the Alpaca Colostrum, or we’d lose her… I had only seen this done once and didn’t feel competent enough, so we called our Vet who done this for us. Martin and I had to watch over Audrey and Amber all night, sitting in his transit van with the lights shining onto mother and cria in the field shelter! It got to nearly 3.00am and Amber still hadn’t been able to feed from Audrey so we went up to our caravan in the barn, in the pitch black of the night and managed to make up a bottle of milk by torch light!! I was just about to start to try and feed Amber with the bottle, when Audrey stood up and Amber started to try and feed from her! I waited for a while and eventually was relieved to see Amber feeding from her mum! What a relief, we really didn’t want to have to intervene. After this night of sitting up watching over Audrey and Amber, Martin and I concluded that if our alpaca business had any chance of succeeding, then we would need to be living on site, for the sake of the cria in the birthing season. In the Summer of 2005 we obtained planning permission for a log cabin to be built on our land, enabling us and our two teenage boys to live on site with our alpacas and progress the alpaca business. We chose Windmill Lodges in Suffolk to supply and build our log cabin. They did a fantastic job and it was completed within twelve weeks from start to finish!! Their team are really lovely people - professional, competent and friendly - by the time they had finished we were really sad to see them leave, they had become like family to us. We moved into our log cabin on 14th November 2005. We have been so busy since moving in with getting the business properly up and running….but we are all loving it…..and so do Sasha and Chloe…..they see so much wildlife now……rabbits, pheasants, ducks……they can‘t believe their eyes!!!!!
